Finding Your Inner Drive of Motivation
Many of us have experienced feeling a little lacklustre about
life sometimes. It is easy to put off things that need to be done or to
find excuses to avoid certain milestones in life. What a lot of us lack
in life is a certain level of motivation. Motivation is our willingness
to change things. It is the reason we get out of bed in the morning. If
you feel motivated you have a desire to fulfil tasks and get things
done.
Motivation is a key attribute to have in the world of business, especially if you are in a managerial role. To be able to motivate your staff and co-workers is a necessary skill. If the people in your workspace feel motivated, they are more likely to work better, the staff morale will be higher and the ambience of your surroundings will be a pleasanter place to work.
Motivation is also vital in a family environment. As a parent it is essential you are able to motivate your children into striving for a better future. To be able to motivate your child into wanting to learn is a wonderful talent. If your child has problems adjusting to school or has difficulty making friends, by encompassing motivational skills into their everyday life you can increase their confidence to want to fit in and try harder in their learning. Lack of confidence isn't necessarily a trait you would associate with a child but a feeling of inadequacy in younger people is very common. Lack of motivation to want to do well or to work hard at school is often a result of lack of confidence. By creating a feeling of motivation in your child they will blossom as individuals and gain confidence along the way.
Motivation can be taught but it can also be instinctive. A pride of lions are motivated to hunt their food in order to feed their young. This could also be regarded as a form of incentive motivation. If you have the incentive of a reward for carrying out a task you will feel more motivated to complete it. For example, if your child receives good grades for doing well at school, they will hopefully feel motivated to keep up a good standard of study.
At work your motivation may come from a desire to be promoted and by putting in the extra hours your motivation will pay off with a bigger salary.
It is often the case that people, especially adolescents, will feel motivated by peer pressure. For example, if you decide to embark on a weight loss programme, you will feel motivated by the possibility of losing weight and if you have the added motivation of your friends and family knowing you are trying to diet, you will naturally try harder to succeed. It is certainly true that motivation can be taught, primarily as a parent to a child. But a certain amount of motivation will have to come from the type of person you are. Motivation is a skill that can be inherited but it is also a feeling that you must harness and learn to keep using as well.
